Pride Weekend, True Colors...
Monday, June 28, 2010 at 06:04AM
It was an excellent Pride weekend in NYC. On Saturday we were honored to be guests at the James Beard Foundation's "Gay Soiree." Bryan used the foundation house kitchen to prepare bacon for ice cream sandwiches, and he was pretty tickled to be called "chef" by the staff. The James Beard staff was so uniformly welcoming and enthusiastic that we were doubly thrilled with the opportunity to be there. Check out Bryan in a famous kitchen!
This kitchen definitely kicks our kitchen's ass.
On Sunday we haunted the West Village for a bit before heading to our "usual" non-Union Square spot- at Avenue A and 13th Street. We had a lovely time there- it's always a fun mix of people- and I'm proud to say that we collected well over $100 in donations for True Colors Residence. Thank you all for your generosity.
We also concluded the "Nellie Sundae" competition last night. I can't thank Alison Arngrim enough for playing along. It was also nice to conclude the competition on Pride Sunday, as Alison's choice for winner referenced "Percival." The actor who portrayed Percival, Steve Tracy, was taken by AIDS in 1986 and this launched Alison's HIV awareness work, which continues to this day. Congratulations to Cory, up in Portland ME, who wins a copy of Alison's "Confessions of a Prairie Bitch." His entry sounds pretty delicious, too: the "Nellie Sundae" is Rocky Road topped w/crumbled shortcake (for PerciVAL), fist-crushed grove nuts & mercantile gumdrops. It's the sundae "adult" Nellie might want.
