Sometimes the hardest-working woman in the punk cabaret movement and a guy who writes things show up at your ice cream truck.

You know how it is.

On Friday we spotted Neil Gaiman in line; he’d been threatening to stop by, but I thought I had a few more days to dream up an original cone for his arrival. Oops! Think fast! I ran through all of his book titles and characters as I was making cones for other folks, and sent Bryan hustling to the Union Square Market for pretzels. When Neil arrived at the window, he was greeted with the first cone of its kind: vanilla ice cream, caramel, crushed pretzels, chocolate dip. The cone’s name is American Globs, after his wonderful book American Gods.

How delightful to have Neil stop by, accompanied by BGICT regulars Beth and Kayla. I was sad that Neil’s fiancée, the delightfully disturbed Amanda Palmer (aside: Amanda once worked at Toscanini's, Cambridge MA- great ice cream) was not along for the visit, but hey- you can’t have it all. WRONG. 10 minutes later I looked out and Miss Palmer had joined them. The whole posse was there- but with added bonus! Brian Viglione, welcome to the Big Gay Ice Cream Truck.

Yeah, we were all pretty happy. Proof. Thanks for making my day, people.

Left to right: Beth, Brian, Doug Myself, Amanda, Neil Himself. Thanks for taking the photo, Kayla- wish you were in it.

I made first acquaintance with all of the named folks in this post (except Brian Viglione) on December 31st, 2009- a.k.a. “The Night I Met Amanda Palmer.” I was performing as a subsitute with the Boston Pops, and I think you should read about that night from Amanda’s perspective. The only thing missing from her version is this photo I took at Amanda’s house (at 3:30am the following morning) of a lady in a tutu climbing into a loft.

American Globs... Sounds tasty!

New Yorkers have it lucky, the only ice cream truck around here is a creepy yellow one with no windows that plays annoying music and only comes on Thursdays. No joke. New Hampshire needs Big Gay Ice Cream!

The ice cream truck that drives down our street plays "La Cucaracha." Not a very appetizing tune, I must say.

I want to go to the big gay ice-cream truck where everybody knows my name! It needs to be able to cross borders and international time zones with the ease of a knight bus, bringing a dose of creamy goodness to all those who really deserve it!

I wish I could come to NYC just for some big gay ice cream. We just have ice cream trucks here that rarely ever come since well...it's Canada.

Wow! A treat for you and the Dynamic Duo. No ice cream trucks in rural Wisconsin :'-(
